Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister: We oppose any decision that affects the flow of gas from Russia
Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said on Friday that Ankara opposes any decision that would affect the flow of gas from Russia to Türkiye.
This came in a press statement in London, commenting on the US inclusion of the Russian Gazprom Bank in the sanctions list.
The Turkish minister explained that the Turkish economy will be harmed if the flow of Russian gas is affected by US sanctions.
Alparslan Bayraktar pointed out that Russia is an important supplier of natural gas to Türkiye.
“There is no chance for us to replace Russian gas in the medium term, so we need to import Russian gas,” Bayraktar added.
Last week, the United States imposed new sanctions on Gazprombank, one of Russia’s largest banks, which is partly owned by state-owned Gazprom, one of the world’s largest gas producers.
