Turkish Defense Ministry: We’ve agreed with Syria to establish a joint operations center
A Turkish Defense Ministry official revealed an agreement with the Syrian government to establish a joint operations center between the two countries, explaining that Ankara is closely monitoring the process of handing over the Tishrin Dam to the new Syrian government.
In a weekly briefing, the official noted that “Syria’s resources and assets belong to the Syrian people,” adding that the Turkish Ministry of Defense is monitoring the implementation of the agreement to hand over the Tishrin Dam to the new Syrian government.
He also noted that the Syrian administration’s most prominent demands focused on joint cooperation to combat terrorist threats, particularly those from ISIS.
The Turkish official also addressed the high-level five-party meeting held in the Jordanian capital, Amman, on March 9, with the participation of the foreign and defense ministers and heads of intelligence agencies from Türkiye, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, and Syria.
He explained that the five countries agreed to support Syria in its war against terrorism, particularly ISIS, and agreed to establish a joint operations center in response to the demands of the new Syrian government and based on agreements concluded with the concerned countries.
The Turkish military official confirmed that technical meetings between the concerned countries are still ongoing regarding the details of establishing this center in Syria.
Earlier, Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler stressed that certain movements and initiatives in Syria could threaten stability in the region, emphasizing that Türkiye continues to support efforts to enhance security and is a key partner highly valued by the new Syrian government.
Güler noted that achieving stability in Syria, preserving its territorial integrity, and enabling the new government to extend its legitimate authority over all Syrian territory are vital priorities for the future of the region.
The Turkish defense minister explained that his country continues to support the building of defense and security capabilities in Syria, in addition to combating all terrorist organizations, most notably ISIS.
