US President Donald Trump revealed that his administration is seriously considering easing sanctions on Syria, a move aimed at opening a new chapter in relations between the two countries.

In remarks from the White House this evening, Trump said, “We’re considering taking realistic steps regarding sanctions on Syria… Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has asked us to look into this matter, and we are seriously considering it to give Syria a new beginning”.

According to Reuters, citing informed sources, Syrian transitional President Ahmed al Sharaa is working on a comprehensive plan aimed at gaining Trump’s support and opening new channels of cooperation.

The plan includes strategic proposals that include de-escalating tensions with Israel, granting the United States access to Syria’s energy resources, and a proposal to build a Trump Tower in the capital, Damascus.

For his part, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al Shaibani considered the Syrian diplomatic delegation’s visit to Washington a pivotal stage in Syria’s process of restoring its role on the international stage.

He emphasized that his country rejects any illegitimate foreign interference and believes that sustainable solutions stem from dialogue based on mutual respect and shared interests.
