Donald Trump launched a new slewd attack on Joe Biden as he addressed the National Rifle Association’s annual convention Saturday seeking to rally support for his presidential campaign, while the current president of the crucial swing state of Georgia warned that his troubled Republican rival posed a threat to US democracy.

Trump’s trial in a New York court in a criminal case was suspended for a week, and he took the opportunity to address Saturday to the National Rifle Association (NRA) in Dallas, Texas.

In his speech to thousands of NBA members, Trump said, “Biden was the worst president in the history of our country”.

Trump called the Democrat a man “full of nonsense… You’re fired, get out of here, Joe!”

Trump warned that Biden wants to deprive them of their firearms.

Trump told the crowd that Biden was a “con man,” calling him a “threat to democracy”.

Biden arrived Saturday in Georgia, a swing state that he won in the 2020 election.

On Saturday, he will seek to rally the support of black Americans and is scheduled to deliver a speech at Morehouse University College, historically known as a black institution.

Biden responded Saturday to Trump’s remarks, saying, “My opponent isn’t a good loser, but he is a loser,” he told supporters, “Our democracy is really at stake”.

“He’s not just obsessed with losing in 2020… It’s clear he’s troubled,” he said, adding that something had happened to Trump after that election.

“Trump isn’t running to lead America… He’s running for revenge… We cannot allow this man to become president… The future of our children is at stake… We’ve to win this race, not for me, but for America”.

The National Rifle Association has significant political influence in the United States, but a New York civil court on Friday convicted its former president, Wayne Lapierre, who resigned in January, on charges of mismanagement and corruption.

Three days before his trial in January, the 74-year-old leader announced his resignation as president of the NBA after three decades as head of the five-million-member organization that has a powerful influence on members of Congress and US politics.

On Friday, Trump said at a fundraiser dinner in Minnesota that gun advocates should vote for Republicans because “Democrats want to withdraw their guns, and they’re going to deny them them”.

“That’s why I’m going to address the National Rifle Association to say, ‘You have to vote'”.

On Friday, Trump again protested his trial, saying, “What a fraud this whole process… I’ve been here for almost four weeks, and we still have a long way to go,” he said, describing his opponent as a “terrible human being,” a “terrible” and other obscene descriptions.

Biden has repeatedly called for the re-imposition of a long-standing embargo on offensive weapons, among other restrictions.

Trump on Friday in Minnesota reiterated his never-proven theory that the 2020 presidential election, won by rival Biden, was fraudulent.

In particular, Trump said he was convinced he won the vote in Minnesota in 2016 and 2020, while Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and then Biden won.

Vice President Kamala Harris said in a statement Saturday, “President Biden and I will continue to confront the gun lobby to keep Americans safe, while Donald Trump continues to sacrifice the safety of our children and communities to serve his own interests”.

Last month, the White House launched a campaign against gun sales at gun fairs and online that evade federal checks for buyers, and several Republican-led states have rushed to file lawsuits against the presidential action.

Trump is on trial in New York for forging 34 accounting documents supposedly used to conceal money paid to cover up a sex scandal during his 2016 presidential campaign, in which he beat Democratic challenger Clinton.

As part of this trial, Trump risks a first criminal conviction against a former US president, and theoretically faces jail time, which could threaten his campaign.
