US President Donald Trump signed a spending bill approved by Congress on Thursday to avoid a second government shutdown.

However, at the same time, Trump announced a national emergency on the border with Mexico to obtain funding for the construction of the border wall with Mexico, which led to a new conflict with Congress and may open the government to face a range of lawsuits.

The federal government entered into a partial 35-day closure in December and January because of a confrontation between Trump and his Democratic rivals, who refused to pass legislation giving the president $ 5.7 billion to build a wall along the border with Mexico.

On Friday, Trump said he would issue an announcement on the succession of the Islamic state within 24 hours, while the jihadists continued to defend their last pocket in Syria.

“There is a lot of important data related to Syria and our success in eliminating the caliphate and it will be announced within 24 hours”, Trump told the White House media.

Trump pointed out that the official declaration of the end of the “Caliphate” will be issued soon.

The declaration of the end of the caliphate, the loss of the organization of the Islamic state over the territories it controls in Syria and Iraq, is supposed to be a prelude to the withdrawal of US forces from Syria, announced by Trump in December.

There are currently some 2,000 US troops in Syria.

The Syrian-backed SDF, which is a coalition of Kurdish and Arab elements backed by Washington, are currently fighting a battle in eastern Syria to restore the last pocket controlled by the Islamic state.

Trump praised Friday the actions of his government and the US military in Syria, saying that he had taken away “a massacre of 3 million people”.

Washington’s decision to withdraw from Syria puts US allies in a sensitive position.

They believe that the end of the “caliphate” militarily does not mean the end of the threat posed by the organization.

Europeans face the danger of the return of jihadists who have left Europe to fight in the ranks of the Islamic state and large numbers of them are now held by Syria’s democratic forces.
