Trump reveals what the Saudi Crown Prince told him to lift sanctions on Syria
US President Donald Trump revealed the backstage details and reasons behind the decision to lift sanctions on Syria, as well as the role of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
During his interview with Fox News, Trump said that Bin Salman, whom he described as doing a great job, called him and said, “Can you do me a favor? Can you do the world a favor? Can you lift the sanctions on Syria? Because that’s the only way they’re going to have a chance. Sanctions are so crippling and so painful… They’ve reached bankrupt point”.
“I didn’t give it much thought,” the US president said during the interview, before deciding to give the Syrians a chance.
Trump described the Saudi crown prince as having “a big heart”.
Regarding the Syrian transitional president al Sharaa, Trump said, “I met with the new leader, who is a handsome young man, by the way… And I said, you know, you have a long history… You have a difficult past… I thought it was great… He was very grateful for the lifting of the sanctions because he knew he couldn’t break through them”.
