Trump reveals results of his meeting with Putin
US President Donald Trump said they made significant progress in their meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but were unable to reach a final agreement.
This came in statements made by Trump during a joint press conference with Putin on Friday, following a meeting that lasted approximately three hours at Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson in Alaska.
The meeting was held in a 3+3 format, with Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff in attendance from the US side, while the Russian delegation included Putin, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, and Kremlin foreign policy advisor Yuri Ushakov.
The US President said, “This meeting was productive… We made significant progress… We agreed on many things, but we did not fully agree on some important issues”.
Trump added, “There are some important issues that we haven’t fully agreed on yet, but we have made some progress”.
He pointed out that “the agreement is not considered an agreement until its reached”.
Trump indicated that he would contact appropriate individuals from NATO member states and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding his meeting with Putin.
“We made significant progress today… My relationship with President Putin has always been excellent… We’ve had many difficult, and even good, meetings,” Trump said.
Trump stated that they had reached an agreement with Putin on many points, adding that “some of the remaining issues are very few,” and that some of the remaining issues “aren’t that important”.
He explained that one of the remaining issues is perhaps the most important, and that there is a very high chance of reaching a solution on it.
He added that he hopes to hold fruitful meetings with Russia in the future.
“We’ll prevent thousands of people from being killed every week, and President Putin wants that as much as I do,” Trump said.
Trump addressed Putin, saying, “We’ll probably meet soon,” Trump responded to Putin’s question, “Text time in Moscow,” by saying, “It’s possible”.
