US President Donald Trump said that his morals are the only thing limiting his authority to order military operations around the world.

In an interview with the New York Times, Trump asserted that his authority as commander-in-chief of the armed forces was limited only by his morality, ignoring international law and other constraints.

When asked in the interview whether there were any limits to his global powers, Trump said: “Yes, there is one thing: my own morality… It’s the only thing that can stop me,” adding, “I don’t need international law. I’m not trying to hurt people”.

When pressed on whether his administration needed to abide by international law, Trump said, “Yes,” however, he clarified that he would be the judge when those restrictions applied to the United States… Trump said: “It depends on your definition of international law”.

Trump also spoke about the success of his strike on Iran’s nuclear program – he keeps a model of the B-2 bombers used in the mission on his desk; the speed with which he overthrew the Venezuelan government last weekend; and his plans for Greenland, which is controlled by Denmark, a NATO ally.
