Trump is going through Judicial Retaliation against his political opponents
The US political scene is witnessing a widespread legal escalation against prominent figures who played pivotal roles in the investigations that targeted President Donald Trump during and after his first term.
What resembles a legal retaliation campaign is now targeting Trump’s opponents, with legal cases and major investigations being opened against them, some of them by grand juries.
This reflects a shift from political confrontation to direct legal battles.
The most prominent targets include: Letitia James, the New York Attorney General who won a civil fraud case against Trump, is now herself facing a criminal investigation.
Adam Schiff, the Democratic senator from California who played a prominent role in the impeachment investigations against Trump, is currently under investigation for mortgage fraud.
Senior Obama administration officials, including former CIA Director John Brennan, have come under scrutiny amid allegations of falsified intelligence about Russian interference in the 2016 election.
Trump didn’t stop at making statements; last April, he signed an executive order ordering the Department of Justice to investigate a number of his former opponents, including: Miles Taylor, a former Department of Homeland Security official who anonymously wrote an article critical of Trump in 2018 and later revealed his identity.
Christopher Krebs, former director of the National Security Agency, who rejected Trump’s claims of election fraud in 2020.
The biggest surprise came after the release of intelligence documents, which Tulsi Gabbard said contained evidence of possible fraud by the Obama administration. Some, including Trump, went so far as to accuse Barack Obama of treason, despite the lack of conclusive evidence, according to observers.
Observers believe these actions have a clear political nature and raise questions about the use of judicial tools for political revenge, especially since many of the ongoing investigations are not based on solid new evidence, reinforcing the hypothesis that legal institutions are being exploited in the struggle for power.
Less than seven months into Trump’s second term, it’s clear that the conflict is no longer confined to the media or Congress, but has moved to the courts, where everyone who previously confronted Trump is now threatened with impeachment.
