Former US President Donald Trump’s statement sparked a wave of ridicule over a radio interview with Hugh Hewitt on the anniversary of the October 7 attack, in which he said that Gaza could become better than Monaco when rebuilt.

Trump said he had “visited Gaza” in “Israel,” while his public visit records show that he had never visited it, but rather visited Israel.

According to Axios, his media campaign tried to pull it together, but its statement to the New York Times made the situation worse.

Trump said, “Trump visited Israel… and Gaza is in Israel,” while Gaza isn’t considered part of it, despite the fact that some extremist Israeli ministers have called for the annexation of the Strip.

Hewitt had asked the Republican presidential candidate if Gaza could become like Monaco if it was rebuilt the right way.

Trump replied, “it could be better than Monaco because it has the best location in the Middle East”.

Trump added, from a “real estate perspective, Gaza is a tough place, true, but that the authorities haven’t taken advantage of its location well”.

“As a real estate developer, it could be the most beautiful place — the weather, the water, everything, the climate… It could be very beautiful… It could be one of the best places in the world,” he said.

Trump ignored that Gaza had been under an Israeli blockade for more than 16 years.

Trump has traveled to Israel once as president, in 2017, when he visited Jerusalem and Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank, but according to Axios, Trump has never visited Gaza, contrary to his campaign comments that he has always worked to secure peace in the Middle East, noting that he negotiated the Abraham Accords and brought stability to the region.
