Trump: I am waiting to meet Putin to resolve the Ukrainian conflict
US President-elect Donald Trump said on Sunday he looks forward to meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
“President Putin said he wants to meet with me as soon as possible… So we will wait for that, and we must end this war,” he said at the Turning Point USA conference in Arizona.
Trump described the conflict in Ukraine as terrible, and reiterated that if he were President of the United States instead of the current head of state, Joe Biden, this conflict would not have happened.
Earlier, the Russian president said, in a direct call accompanied by a press conference, that he was ready to hold a conversation and meet with Trump, noting that if such a meeting took place, the two presidents would have something to talk about.
Future US leader Donald Trump has promised that he will be able to achieve a negotiated settlement to the Ukrainian conflict, and has repeatedly stated that he will be able to deal with this issue in one day.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a direct call on Thursday that Russia has no preconditions for starting negotiations.
According to the Russian president, Moscow is ready to talk even with Volodymyr Zelensky if he wins the presidential elections in Ukraine.
At the same time, Putin stressed that Russia doesn’t need a temporary truce, but a long-term peace with guarantees for itself and its citizens.
