Trump confirms that oil producing countries are “close to reaching an agreement” to cut production tomorrow, after a triple phone call between him and Putin and King Salman

US President Donald Trump announced Thursday evening after making a “very good” triple phone call, which included his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, and Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz, that oil-producing countries, particularly OPEC and Saudi Arabia, “Close to reaching an agreement” to cut production to raise prices.

“They are close to reaching an agreement, we will find out soon,” Trump said during his daily White House press conference on the developments of the Covid-19 epidemic in the United States.

“They will probably announce something today or tomorrow, whether in this direction or that,” he added.

On his phone conversation with the Russian president and the Saudi king, Trump said it was “a very good conversation”.

Dan Scafino Jr, one of the president’s advisors, said the three leaders “discussed an oil deal”, without further details.

The main oil producing countries, especially OPEC member states, in addition to Russia, are trying to reach an agreement to cut production to raise the prices of black gold that collapsed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
