US President Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on the electric vehicle mandate and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, accusing him of receiving more government support than anyone else in history.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump emphasized that he had been strongly opposed to the electric vehicle mandate before Musk began strongly supporting it during his campaign, calling it “ridiculous” and saying, “Electric cars aren’t bad, but everyone shouldn’t be forced to own one”.

Trump accused Musk of receiving massive government subsidies, saying, “Without these subsidies, Musk might have to close his company and move back to South Africa… We wouldn’t see rocket launches, satellites, or electric cars, which would mean a huge amount of wealth for our country”.

Trump added sarcastically, “Maybe Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency should see this massive amount of money that could be saved”.

In a quick response to Trump’s criticism, Elon Musk said in a post on X, “Cut everything now,” referring to the government support his companies receive.

He added, “All I ask is that we don’t bankrupt America,” adding, “What’s the point of raising the debt ceiling if we keep raising it?”
