US President Donald Trump announced, Saturday, the launch of an American air strikes on a large number of Islamic State (ISIS) elements in Somalia, which resulted in the destruction of caves in which these elements stationed, and the killing of a large number of “terrorists” without harming civilians, according to the Pentagon.

Trump explained via his Truth Social that these strikes targeted a leader in the armed organization tasked with planning attacks, in addition to other militants whom he recruited and led in Somalia.

Trump added, “The message to ISIS and anyone who wants to attack Americans is: We will find you and we will kill you.”

On the other hand, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said that the initial assessment indicates that a number of elements were killed in the strikes that took place in the Golis Mountains in northern Somalia.

Hegseth said, “This action will further reduce ISIS’s ability to plan and carry out terrorist attacks that threaten American citizens.”

The United States witnessed an armed attack in the state of New Orleans at the beginning of last January, which resulted in the death of 14 people.

A former US soldier influenced by ISIS was suspected of carrying it out, as the flag of the armed organization was found in his vehicle, he also announced his support for the organization in several videos.

The Islamic State has a relatively limited presence in Somalia compared to the al Qaeda linked, the al Shabaab movement, however, Washington has previously warned of increased activity by groups affiliated with the Islamic State group in the country.
