US President Donald Trump announced that a “great deal” had been reached with Iran, stressing that the two sides had succeeded in settling the differences related to the nuclear issue.

Trump said during a campaign rally that Iran “won’t have nuclear weapons,” expressing optimism that the agreement could be signed in the coming days in Europe, a move that could pave the way for reducing tensions between Washington and Tehran after months of escalation and mutual confrontations.

In the first official Iranian response to US President Donald Trump’s statements regarding reaching an agreement to end the war, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei confirmed that no final agreement has yet been reached, and that what is being circulated about the date or location of the signing remains within the realm of media speculation.

Baghaei added that most of the points of understanding have been discussed, but there are still details that require approval from the relevant authorities in Iran before an official announcement.

He also stressed that Iran won’t back down from what it considers “red lines,” emphasizing that any agreement will only be announced after the completion of decision-making procedures within the Iranian state.

As for the Strait of Hormuz issue, Baghaei said that navigation had been affected by recent events, and that Iranian forces had issued warnings to ships, holding the United States responsible for the deteriorating security situation in the region.

Meanwhile, international parties are awaiting further details regarding the actual conclusion of an agreement and its terms, where and how it will be signed, and the steps and timeframe for its implementation.
