Thousands of Syrians are obtaining Belgian citizenship
A report issued by the Federal Center for Migration in Belgium revealed the number of Syrians granted citizenship by the Belgian authorities during the past year 2021.
According to the report issued by the Center, Syrians came in second place among the new naturalized, as more than three thousand Syrian refugees obtained Belgian citizenship last year.
The report confirmed that nearly forty thousand refugees obtained Belgian citizenship, and that Syrians ranked second after Morocco, as the number of naturalized people from Morocco reached 3,611.
The report indicated that the number of naturalized Syrians in Belgium increased more than thirteen times, between 2017 and 2021, when the number was at first 243 people, while last year the number reached 3,287.
According to the General Commission for Refugees and Stateless Persons in Belgium, last year, 2021, 2,874 Syrian asylum seekers arrived in Belgium, 906 of whom came as part of resettlement.
Syria ranked second in terms of the number of asylum seekers in 2021, while Afghanistan ranked first, with number of asylum seekers was 6,506 in the same year.
