The Yemeni Ansar Allah group announced targeted an Israeli ship in the Red Sea with a ballistic missile and security measures imposed around Netanyahu and Katz
Yemeni Ansar Allah group announced Monday morning that its forces had struck an Israeli oil tanker with a ballistic missile off the coast of the Red Sea.
This comes days after Israel assassinated the group’s prime minister and several ministers in a bombing of Sana’a.
“The naval forces of the Yemeni armed forces carried out a military operation,” Yahya Saree, the group’s military spokesman, said in a statement.
He explained that the operation “targeted the Israeli oil tanker SCARLET RAY in the northern Red Sea, with a ballistic missile that hit the ship”.
Yahya Saree added that the operation comes “in victory for the oppressed Palestinian people and their dear mujahideen, and in response to the crimes of genocide and starvation committed by the Zionist enemy against our brothers in the Gaza Strip”.
On the other hand, the Israeli General Security Service (Shin Bet) on Sunday strengthened security measures around Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz, following threats by the Yemeni Houthi group to take revenge for the assassination of prominent leaders of the group in Yemen.
The official Israeli Broadcasting Corporation, Kan, reported that the Shin Bet security service has been taking “special and exceptional steps” to protect senior officials in recent days, following explicit threats by the Houthis to retaliate for the killing of their prime minister, Ahmed al Rahwi, and other officials in an Israeli airstrike on the capital, Sanaa, on Thursday.
According to the same source, the Israeli military said the air force carried out an operation dubbed “Drops of Luck,” targeting a building in the capital, Sana’a, that housed more than 10 military and political leaders of the Ansar Allah group.
Kan explained that among those targeted were Houthi Chief of Staff Mohammed al Ghamari, along with Defense Minister Mohammed al Atifi and Interior Minister Abdul Karim al Houthi, in the group’s government, while the group’s leader, Abdul Malik al Houthi, wasn’t among the targets.
According to the report, Israeli aircraft were able to reach Sanaa, which is approximately 2,000 kilometers from Israel, thanks to a military trick that allowed them to launch the raid suddenly.
On Saturday, the group announced the assassination of its prime minister, al Rahwi, and ministers as a result of an Israeli bombing of Sana’a on Thursday.
Thursday’s attack was the second to target Sanaa in five days.
Last Sunday, the Israeli Air Force launched airstrikes on two power and fuel stations in Sana’a, killing 10 Yemenis and wounding 92 others, according to a toll announced by the group.
