The Washington Post: Israel won’t have the upper hand if it launches a large-scale operation against Lebanon
The Washington post revealed in a report that Israel will face difficulty in gaining the upper hand in the Middle East conflict if it launches a large-scale operation against Lebanon.
Quoted sources and based on US intelligence information, representatives of the administration of US President Joe Biden, in personal conversations, warned the Israeli authorities on more than one occasion of escalation on the border with Lebanon.
The Washington post said that based on data from the Intelligence Agency of the US Department of Defense, which indicates that it will be difficult for the Israeli army to achieve a victory, because it will have to distribute military resources on several fronts, taking into account the situation in the Gaza Strip, and even more so is the involvement of the Air Force, which is therefore stressed.
The Washington post reported, citing sources, that since the beginning of the deterioration of the situation in the Middle East, Israel has been studying the possibility of launching a pre-emptive strike against the Lebanese Hezbollah and can move the forces withdrawing from Gaza to the north after they rest and prepare for an attack to begin a new phase of military operations.
The United States is working to dissuade Israel from doing so because of fears that it will drag Iran, as well as other groups, into the conflict, and force Washington to resort to a military response alongside Israel.
At the same time, according to sources, Hezbollah doesn’t want to escalate tensions with Israel, and its leader Hassan Nasrallah wants to avoid a major war.
In a conversation with the Israeli authorities, US officials, according to the Washington post reported, expressed their dissatisfaction with Israel’s attacks on the positions of the Lebanese army, which is supported by the United States.
Israel has carried out 34 such raids since October 7, according to US intelligence, but officials in Israel indicated that the attacks were unintentional.
