The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Sunday the death of a new US National Guard soldier in Kuwait, bringing the total number of US military deaths since the start of joint military operations with Israel against Iran to 8.

CENTCOM said in an official post on X: “A US National Guard soldier died in Kuwait on March 6 following a health emergency… The cause of death is currently being investigated… More information can be obtained through the US National Guard office”.

Between an Iranian attack and a health accident with this death, US casualties in the current war are distributed between those killed by direct Iranian fire, and others who died in other circumstances related to military deployment.

The US military announced the previous day (Sunday) that another soldier had died from serious injuries sustained during an Iranian attack on US forces in Saudi Arabia in early March.

CENTCOM confirmed in a previous statement that the soldier died of injuries sustained during the first attacks launched by the Iranian regime across the Middle East.

US President Donald Trump on Saturday oversaw a solemn military ceremony on the runway at Dover Air Force Base to return the bodies of six US soldiers killed in the war on Iran.

The six were reservists, deployed to Kuwait, and are affiliated with Support Command 103, based in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Dover ceremony marks a long-standing US military tradition of honoring fallen soldiers on the battlefield, the first time al Qaeda has seen the return of the remains of those killed since the start of current military operations against Iran.

The toll of 8 dead and the escalation of these deaths brings the officially recognized US military death toll since the start of the joint US-Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28.

These losses, while relatively limited compared to previous wars, reflect the extent of direct US involvement in the conflict, and underscore that the war isn’t just a long-range airstrike, but has a human cost on the ground, whether from direct attacks or from the harsh conditions associated with a large-scale military deployment in the Gulf region.
