The Wall Street Journal: Israel received weapons in two months equivalent to what should have been sent for two years
US arms shipments to Israel have recently slowed down from the early months of the war in Gaza, US officials have revealed, because many of those weapons have already been shipped or delivered.
The Wall Street Journal quoted a US State Department official as saying that the current pace of deliveries is just a slowdown when compared to massive air transfers of tens of thousands of weapons in the early months of the war in Gaza.
The current pace was similar to, or even higher, peacetime levels.
The US State Department official continued, “Our pace is normal, if not accelerated, but slow compared to the first few months of the war”.
Many of the orders have already been supplied to the Israeli army, the Wall Street Journal said, adding that the White House has not blocked shipments, and there has been no change in US policy towards Israel.
Former Israeli national security adviser Giora Eiland says that with the start of the war in Gaza, the Biden administration accelerated the delivery of ammunition shipments to Israel.
He said Israel had delivered shipments within two months equivalent to what should have been sent for about two years.
The US had only in May postponed the delivery of bombs and munitions to Israel, citing concerns about the impact they could have in densely populated areas.
However, Netanyahu last week came out with surprising remarks about America’s procrastination in handing over weapons to Tel Aviv, which angered the White House, which described the comments as disappointing.
Biden is facing domestic pressure to stop delivering weapons to Tel Aviv amid the high rate of civilian deaths in Gaza, with more than 37,000 victims and 86,000 injured, according to official statistics.
