The US National Security Advisor postpones a visit to Saudi Arabia to recover from a broken rib

US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has postponed plans to travel to Saudi Arabia for talks this week while he recovers from a broken rib after a minor accident, the White House said on Wednesday.

Sullivan was scheduled to hold talks with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman amid a US effort to make progress towards normalizing relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia.

White House spokesman John Kirby said, “the injury affected his ability to travel… It was a simple accident that occurred spontaneously”.

“It wasn’t caused by anyone… It wasn’t the result of an evil act,” he added.

Kirby added that Sullivan is looking to reschedule the trip, but didn’t specify a date.

It’s worth mentioning that as part of a normalization deal, Saudi Arabia wants to conclude a joint defense agreement with Washington and obtain US support for its civilian nuclear program.
