The US Army announces the resumption of its operations in Syria
The US military announced the full resumption of its operations with the Syria Democratic Forces (SDF) against ISIS in Syria.
The Pentagon spokesman General Pat Ryder said in a press conference on Tuesday, “We’re focused with these local partners on preventing the reconstitution of ISIS”.
He added, “Operations resumed last week, on December 9”.
The US army and the Syria Democratic Forces (SDF) had reduced their joint patrols in northern Syria due to the Turkish threats to launch a ground military operation.
This comes three weeks after Türkiye launched air and artillery strikes in Syria and Iraq after a bomb attack in Istanbul on November 13, which killed 6 people and injured dozens.
The Turkish government blamed the bombing on the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which Ankara classifies as a terrorist, and its Syrian branch, the People’s Protection Units (YPG), which denied involvement in the attack.
Erdogan threatened to follow up strikes on northern Syria with a ground offensive, but the planned Turkish incursion was halted amid opposition from the United States and Russia.
