The United States is seeing more signs of an unprecedented expansion of a defense partnership between Russia and Iran that will help Moscow prolong its war in Ukraine and pose a threat to Tehran’s neighbors, the White House said on Monday.

National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told a news briefing that Iran has been providing Russia with suicide attack drones, including more than 400 since August, as part of their cooperation.

“This is about a growing defense relationship that allows Russia to kill more people in Ukraine and also enables Iran to stockpile military hardware and pose a greater threat to its neighbors,” Kirby told reporters.

Kirby added that the drones are the basic military assistance that Iran provides to Russia, which seeks to obtain advanced types of them.
