The United States is trying to stop the Nord Stream 2

The US ambassador in Germany, Richard Grenell, has threatened to impose sanctions on German companies for their participation in the Nord Stream II project.
As Grenell said in an interview with German VOX TV channel, the pipeline could increase the dependence of European countries on gas supplies from Russia.
The US ambassador directly threatened not only the German companies Wintershall Dea and UNIPER to participate in the project, but also the OMV of Austria, the French company ENGIE and even British Shell.
In January of this year, Grenell sent letters to major German companies threatening to impose sanctions from Washington.
Grenell also notes consistently that Germans don’t spend 2% of GDP on defense as promised.
It is clear that Grenell is not at all afraid to enter history and enter the Guinness Book of Records as the first US ambassador to declare a “family readiness group” to be an undesirable person.
This is exactly what the Bundestag deputy Wolfgang Kubeki proposed to do with the Americans.
Germany’s concession, which was Berlin’s decision to build a liquefied natural gas tanker terminal to diversify gas supplies and thereby reduce its “dependence” on Russia, didn’t impress Washington: compromise is not appropriate; Berlin must comply with the will of the United States, On the import of Russian energy.
After all, both Germany and Russia will become economically weaker, and therefore politically.
Germany will not be able to face the dictates of the United States in Europe, and Russia will not be able to face these dictates in the world.
US Energy Secretary Rick Perry, who described Russian gas as “cheap” and “unreliable”, pressed for energy cooperation between Europe and Russia in Brussels.
Moreover, he concluded: The price of Russian gas, which attracts European consumers, is alleged to be unreliable and has no clear competitive advantages over US gas in terms of price and quality.
The United States is well aware of the fact that if they do not like anything, they will not hesitate to apply sanctions.
The problem will be posed as follows: If you don’t accept our terms, we will cut gas supplies.
In any case, if the Germans pay more for gas, their cars, like all their products, will become more expensive and therefore less competitive. This, in Trump’s view, is not too bad, because “America is above all”.
The fact is that even by increasing liquefied natural gas supplies to Europe, the United States is unable to replace the Russian pipeline gas, which according to Peri is dependent on 11 European countries “up to 75% of its total imports”.
The US simply does not have and will never get such a volume of LNG for the European market.
The Americans in Europe generally deliver liquefied natural gas (LNG) purchased from Russia under their own guise.
What do the Europeans do?
The Europeans are well aware of this, but they have to agree, as EU Energy Commissioner Miguel Arias Kenneth did.
Speaking at an energy conference in Brussels, he referred to Perry, who supported increasing US gas imports, because “diversification is important not only for supply security, but also for competition”.
But it is clear that without Russian gas, Germany faces a bad future.
So, in this case, American desires do not matter much.
One of the political advisers who speak boldly on this subject is Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kors.
According to him, Vienna supports the construction of “Nord Stream 2” and considers it the basis of energy security in the country, despite the opposite view of some politicians in Brussels and Strasbourg.
What will this conflict lead to?
The presence of other politicians and other interests, the most important of which is appeasing the United States, will lead to the fact that the construction of the gas pipeline may be somewhat delayed and will become more expensive.
However, perhaps this is what Europe’s enemies can achieve.
The installation of “Nord Stream 2” was due to be completed by the end of 2019.
It’ll probably be built within six months after this or within a year.
European authorities understand one thing.
If they surrender, they will create a very undesirable precedent that will allow the United States to constantly intervene in its own interests, internal affairs and economic policies.
No one wants that.
