The United States harshly condemns Erdogan’s statements in which he criticized the Biden administration and the bombing of Gaza
The US State Department criticized Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for what it described as the anti-Semitic statements he made while criticizing the administration of President Joe Biden for supporting Israel in its conflict with Hamas.
“The United States strongly condemns the recent anti-Semitic comments made by President Erdogan regarding the Jewish people and considers them offensive,” ministry spokesman Ned Price said in a statement Tuesday evening, according to Bloomberg News.
The statement did not mention specific statements, but Erdogan, after a cabinet meeting on Monday, condemned Israel and its allies against the backdrop of the violence that erupted last week.
He said that Austria, in its support of Israel, was trying to atone for the Holocaust by “getting Muslims to pay the price” for it.
According to the Iranian Fars news agency, Erdogan described the Israeli military attacks in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip as a “massacre” and described Israel as a “terrorist” state.
He had previously compared the Israeli campaigns in Gaza to the Nazi atrocities against the Jews.
