The Ukrainian President announces his country’s readiness to resume relations with Syria
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Thursday that his country is preparing to reopen diplomatic channels with Syria.
His remarks came after he reviewed a report by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, who visited Syria on Monday.
Zelensky said, “We’re working to resume diplomatic relations with Syria and strengthen cooperation within international organizations”.
During the visit, a Ukrainian delegation led by the Ukrainian Foreign Minister met with the leader of the new Syrian administration, Ahmad al Sharaa.
For his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Syrian transitional government, Asaad al Sheibani, explained that there are plans to establish strategic partnerships between Syria and Ukraine in the fields of politics, economy and society.
In the same context, Ukrainian Foreign Minister confirmed that Ukraine will continue to send more food aid to Syria.
A few days ago, Zelensky announced the sending of the first batch of food aid to Syria.
After the fall of Bashar al Assad’s regime, Ukraine confirmed its desire to rebuild relations with Damascus, which previously relied on food imports from Moscow.
