The Turkish Nationalist Movement Party leader rejects Erdoğan’s proposal to appoint deputies from religious sects!
The leader of the Turkish Nationalist Movement Party, Devlet Bahçeli, criticized the circulating proposal to appoint two vice presidents from the Alevi and Kurdish communities, describing it as a deliberate distortion of a sincere idea and a distortion of the unitary concept of the state.
Turkish Journalist Ismail Saimez leaked the proposal made by Bahçeli during a closed party meeting on July 18, 2025.
According to Turkish media reports, Bahçeli indicated that the proposal, which was circulated as part of the “Türkiye Without Terror” vision, aims to confront the ethnic and sectarian dictates that have exhausted the country, depleted its energies, and caused profound social and economic burdens.
He stressed that “no one has the power or the courage to turn Türkiye into a complex and unstable structure similar to Lebanon or any other similar country,” emphasizing that such a scenario will never be possible.
He added that “the attempt to distort the proposal, which is based on historical and cultural foundations, by desperate politicians who confuse Beirut’s nights with Ankara’s atmosphere is an indication of their penchant for chaos and coups, whether through sectarianism or political quotas,” he considered their attempts to represent an unfortunate opportunity for collapse.
Bahçeli stressed the importance of preserving the unity of the Turkish state and rejected any tendency toward quotas or the dismantling of national identity, asserting that “linking Türkiye to the Lebanese model weakens the state’s stability and opens the door to chaos”.
These statements come after media outlets linked Bahçeli’s proposal to the sectarian political situation in Lebanon.
