The Syrian military delegation continues its official visit to Russia… Posting a photo with the Russian S-400 system
Assem Ghalioun, Director of the Communications and Media Department at the Syrian Ministry of Defense, posted a selfie on Thursday evening that he took next to the advanced Russian S-400 air defense system during an official visit to the Russian capital, Moscow.
Ghalioun accompanied the photo with a striking comment, saying, “Today in Russia… tomorrow in Syria,” a reference that observers interpreted as a hint at the possibility of strengthening Syria’s air defenses with advanced systems like the S-400.
The Russian S-400 air defense system is among the world’s most powerful.
Its distinguished by its high ability to intercept air targets, including fighter jets and air-to-air missiles, making it a strategic choice for countries seeking to enhance their defensive capabilities against air threats.
An official delegation from the Syrian Ministry of Defense, headed by Chief of the General Staff, Major General Ali al Naasan, arrived in Moscow on Wednesday evening.
The delegation was received by Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, Russian Deputy Defense Minister.
This visit comes within the framework of enhancing military coordination and cooperation between Moscow and Damascus, and exploring new areas for exchanging defense expertise and technologies.
As part of the visit, the Syrian delegation toured the Russian Armed Forces’ Central Military Park, where they viewed a range of air defense systems and reconnaissance and combat drones, in addition to a number of heavy military equipment used on the battlefield.
This visit indicates a continued development in defense relations between the two countries, amid indications that Damascus is moving toward enhancing its air and weapons capabilities in cooperation with Moscow in light of current regional and international challenges.
