US President Donald Trump has blamed Democrats for the deaths of two people shot dead by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents while trying to arrest them in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

This came in a post on Truth Social on Sunday, commenting on the protests taking place in the state due to the excessive force exercised by the agents of the Immigration Department.

Trump claimed that tens of thousands of irregular immigrants involved in crimes entered the country during former President Joe Biden’s term.

He recalled that he launched large-scale deportations after taking office in 2025, and that these processes have gone smoothly in Republican-controlled states.

He noted that Democratic-controlled states have blocked deportations by refusing to cooperate with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“Two US citizens have lost their lives as a result of the mess created by the Democrats,” he said, and addressed Democratic officials, including Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Fry.

“Instead of fanning the flames of division, chaos and violence, formally cooperate with the Trump administration to enforce our nation’s laws,” he said in his speech.

Trump demanded that all illegal immigrant criminals held in state prisons, as well as those wanted under valid arrest warrants, be immediately turned over to federal authorities for deportation.

On Saturday, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) teams shot and killed a man while trying to arrest him during protests in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

On January 7, widespread protests erupted in the United States, after immigration teams shot and killed a woman with American citizenship in her car in Minneapolis.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said at the time that the woman tried to run over agency personnel and hit them with her car, which Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz denied, confirming that he had seen a video documenting the moment she was shot.

A video showed that the woman was inside her car in the middle of the road watching what was happening, before one of the police officers tried to open the car door by force, and after another officer approached the front of the car, the driver tried to flee by turning with the steering wheel, and the policeman brandished his weapon and fired three shots in her face.

These developments have put the Trump administration’s immigration policies at the center of public criticism.
