The repercussions of the operation carried out by a Jordanian who killed three Israelis on the bridge linking the two sides continue to develop

Amman announced on Sunday evening the reopening of the King Hussein Bridge crossing to travel, but its closure to cargo, after it was closed following the shooting incident at the “Allenby Crossing” and the killing of 3 Israelis and the perpetrator of the operation between Jordan and the occupied West Bank.

This came in a statement by the spokesman for the Public Security Directorate in Jordan (affiliated with the Ministry of Interior), Colonel Amer al Saratwi.

The Jordanian official stated that “King Hussein Bridge will open Monday to traffic at 10:00 am (7:00 GMT), while remaining closed to freight traffic”.

He called on travelers to adhere to the schedules and instructions to save their time and effort.

Earlier on Sunday, the crossing was closed in both directions from the Jordanian and Israeli sides following a shooting incident carried out by a truck driver from the Kingdom named Maher Diab Hussein al Jazi, a resident of the al Hussainiya area in Ma’an Governorate, south of Jordan.

On Sunday morning, 3 Israelis were killed after being seriously wounded by gunfire at the Allenby Crossing.

The Red Star of David (Israeli ambulance) reported that three wounded people in their fifties were killed as a result of gunfire at the Allenby crossing, according to Israeli Channel 12.

The Israeli army said on X, “A terrorist arrived via Jordan on a truck towards the Allenby crossing, got out of the truck and opened fire on the forces guarding the crossing”.

The Israeli army added that “the security forces killed him (the shooter), and a number of Israeli civilians who were injured as a result of the attack were also killed”.

Israel announced the closure of the border crossings with Jordan, which are the Yitzhak Rabin (Arava) land crossing near Eilat, the Allenby (King Hussein Bridge) and the Jordan River (Sheikh Hussein Bridge) near Beit Shean.

Regarding the Jordanian driver who carried out the operation, Maher al Jazi al Huwaitat, had previously been discharged from the army after several years of service.

It turned out that the man who the Israeli Broadcasting Authority said was the driver who was killed after killing 3 Israeli security men.

A source close to the people of al Hussainiya town, south of Ma’an, identified the driver as a former non-commissioned officer with several years of service in the Jordanian Army.
