Assassination has been and continues to be a way for individuals or groups to express their rejection of a personality of intellectual, political or ideological influence that prevents the wider dissemination of their ideas or goals.

Over time, history has recorded assassinations and attempted assassinations, some of which have been subtle, some have not been discovered, and some have been silenced as the most stupid in history.

Here are five of the most stupid assassinations.

 

1- The US President Abraham Lincoln assassination

First story hero is John Wilkes Booth, a southern Confederate and reputed actor, who was planning to kidnap President Abraham Lincoln and hand him over to the Confederate army to force the north to exchange prisoners.

Booth learned that the president would go to the Ford Theater to see a play.

He decided that April 14, 1865 would be the desired day.

Booth carried his pistol and knife and went to Lincoln’s cabin, which his guard was supposed to protect the President.

Here we can imagine the rest of the story; so, Booth has threatened Lincoln with his gun in order to kidnap him…

Well, that’s not what happened!

After Booth rolled into the cabin, Lincoln received a shot on the head while his wife, who start screaming.

Booth jumped out of the cabin and broke his leg, but he managed to escape; but he couldn’t hide for long.

He had been chasing for about 12 days until the federal army besieged him and shot him dead.

2- The assassination of the Nazi Germany Holocaust master mind Reinhard Heydrich

Reinhard Heydrich, the most cruel man in Third Rich, the one who was nicknamed by Hitler as the iron heart, he’s the architect of the Holocaust.

British intelligence called for union with the Czech resistance to conspire to assassinate him in Prague at the current Czech Republic in 1942 by two soldiers, Jan Kubis and Jozef Gabcik in operation called Operation Anthropoid.

The two soldiers learned the road direction which Heydrich’s car will take on June 4th, so, they followed him and waited at the turn, while the car slowed down, Gabcik prepared to hit the trigger of his machine gun but his machine gun jammed, because while Gabcik was waiting for Heydrich’s car to arrive he decided to roam between weeds and trees to collect some plants for his rabbit, and put them in his machine gun barrel!

Heydrich watch them and he ordered his driver to stop the care and take his gun to fire back, but his gun was empty.

Watching this futile confrontation, Gabcik’s partner Kubis threw a grenade at the car, but he missed the target, leaving Heydrich and his driver wounded along with Kubis who was also injured from the grenade that he threw.

The injured Heydrich came out of the car and ordered his driver to chase Gabcik while Kubis was trying to escape by bicycle.

Meanwhile, Gabcik recalled that he was carrying a pistol.

He fired at the driver and fled.

Now, we’re certainly wondering why he didn’t kill the injured Heydrich?

Well there is no answer to that except that he probably needed to feed his rabbit!

Eventually Heydrich dies; although his wounds weren’t series, but the police couldn’t manage get a car to take him to the hospital in time.

At the end Heydrich died and the mission was accomplished!

3- The Spanish Prime Minister Luis Carrero Blanco assassination

The assassination of Spanish Prime Minister Luis Carrero Blanco in 1973 had a profound impact on Spain’s politics and was considered the second-largest attack since the end of the Spanish Civil War of 1939, which was called “Operation Ogre”.

Blanco who was the successor to the Spanish dictator Francesco Franco, was the Target of the Basque’s ETA organization.

ETA leadership assigned the task of assassinating Blanco to four commandos of the ETA separatist organization in the Basque Country.

To carry out the operation, the four ETA commando’s men pretend to be sculpture students to convince the owner of a basement apartment to rent it to them.

The apartment was overlooking a street that Blanco used to pass through to attend the Church on Sundays.

So, their plan was to dig a tunnel under the road that Blanco was passing through and plant explosives.

The plan seemed to be so neat, but what made the job so hardly stupid was that none of them had any idea of ​​tunneling.

After digging, they discovered that their tools weren’t effective and one of them was suffering from indoor phobia, also the roof of Tunnel was collapsing while they’re in digging process.

Besides, the soil was contaminated with sewage and harmful gases.

So they resorted to reading a book about how the tunnels were dug and somehow they were able to finish the job, then they filled it with explosives.

As Blanco’s car crossed the street and reach the location over the tunnel, the bombs exploded inside the tunnel, throwing Blanco’s car high about five floors in the air.

4- Hamas military leader Mahmoud Al Mabhouh assassination

The operation that was called the Dubai-gate, which it was the dumbest operation in Israeli Mossad history, that exceeded the failure of assassinating the head of the political bureau of Hamas Khaled Meshaal in the Jordanian capital Amman in 1997.

Mahmoud Al Mabhouh who was the chief of logistics and weapons procurement for Hamas’s military wing, the Izz Eddin Al Qassam Brigades.

Mahmoud Abdel Raouf Al Mabhouh, was one of the leaders of Hamas Izz Eddin Al Qassam Brigades of, targeted by the Israeli Mossad.

Mossad was learned about Al Mabhouh travel to Dubai; so they prepared for his assassination through a team of operations headquartering in Austria.

Despite Mossad involvement in several operations that successfully and flawlessly targeted several Arab and Palestinian figures worldwide, however this operation described as one of the dumbest Mossad operations ever.

The members of the assassination team used valid European passports, not forged, but stolen identities belonging to real people living in Israel, which confirms the stupidity of the Mossad; because it’s easy to trace these people and make sure they don’t travel outside the country.

The Mossad in the process, obviously don’t know that there are surveillance cameras installed at the airports and hotels!

However, Israeli Foreign Minister at that time Avigdor Lieberman said: “Israel has no comment, don’t confirm the operation, and doesn’t denying it”.

While the Israeli Haaretz newspaper reported that the assassination team didn’t take into account the professionalism of Dubai Police.

Despite the success of killing Mahmoud Al Mabhouh with gunshot in his hotel room in Dubai, the Dubai police managed to identify the entire assassination team with clear camera footage of them all.

5- The assassination of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi

The disappearance of Jamal Khashoggi, a Saudi journalist who disappeared from his consulate in the Turkish city of Istanbul on October 2, 2018, is one of the most flawed operations and has been ridiculed by social networks.

The crime, whose consequences are still unfolding, came to details, many of which were revealed to show the stupidity of their plans and implement them.
