The Martyr Mohammad Deif Brigades announce the start of their armed operations against Israel from the Golan Heights!
A new Palestinian armed faction calling itself the “Martyr Muhammad al Deif Brigades” announced the commencement of military operations from the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
The group claimed responsibility for its first operations by bombing Israeli positions in the area.
The brigades named themselves after Palestinian military commander Muhammad Deif, who served as commander-in-chief of the al Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, until his assassination in January 2025 in the Gaza Strip.
In its founding statement, the brigades said, “From the heart of occupied Palestine, we announce the launch of the Martyr Muhammad Deif Brigades, in loyalty to the blood of the martyrs and in continuation of the path of resistance”.
The statement continues, “We’re members of a generation that grew up under bombardment and grew accustomed to the sound of guns… We won’t accept a life of humiliation… It’s either a life that pleases friends or a death that angers enemies”.
The statement emphasized that the Brigades don’t belong to a particular party or organization, but rather embody “a free, vibrant revolutionary act in the streets, camps, and alleys of Palestine,” and that they represent an extension of “the cries of the oppressed from Gaza to the West Bank, from Jerusalem to the occupied interior”.
It’s worth noting that the group’s naming itself after Hamas leader Mohammed al Deif has many connotations, as al Deif who born in Gaza in 1965, was one of the most prominent symbols of the Palestinian resistance.
He assumed command of the Qassam Brigades after the assassination of his predecessor, Salah Shehadeh, in 2002.
He was the target of several failed Israeli assassination attempts, most notably a 2014 raid that killed his wife and child.
The al Qassam Brigades confirmed his death in an Israeli raid on January 30, 2025, along with prominent Hamas leaders, including his deputy, Marwan Issa, weapons chief Ghazi Abu Tamaa, and Khan Yunis Brigade commander Rafi Salama.
Mohammad al Daif played a pivotal role in developing the military capabilities of the Qassam Brigades, especially in the areas of missiles and tunnels, and was one of the master minds of the October 7, 2023 attack.
