The Kommersant newspaper reported on Tuesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin may announce next month his intention to run in the presidential elections scheduled for 2024, which would pave the way for him to remain in power until at least 2030.

According to the Russian newspaper, who quoted sources close to the Kremlin, that officials expect Putin to announce his intention to run in the elections scheduled for March during a conference to be held in November.

The Kommersant said that there are other scenarios for what Putin will do at the conference, adding that the final decision rests with Putin himself.

Vladimir Putin, who will turn 71 on October 7, took over the presidency for the first time from Boris Yeltsin on the last day of 1999, which lasted until 2008, and return to be elected as president on 2012, succeeding Dmitry Medvedev.
