The Israeli Chief of Staff tours inside Syrian territories… “We entered this vital region because Syria has disintegrated”
Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir conducted a field tour inside occupied Syrian territory on Sunday, in the latest violation of Syrian sovereignty.
The Israeli army said in a statement that “Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir conducted a field tour on Sunday and assessed the situation in Syria”.
The Israeli army added that he was “accompanied by the commander of the Northern Command, Uri Gordin, the commander of the 210th Division, Yair Balai, and other commanders”.
“The Chief of Staff spoke with commanders and fighters operating in the field and approved plans to continue defense and attack,” the statement added.
Speaking about the occupied Syrian buffer zone, Zamir said, “This area is vital,” claiming that it was occupied “because Syria has disintegrated”.
He added, “Therefore, we control key points and are present on the front lines to defend ourselves in the best possible way”.
Zamir continued, “From this location (not specified), everyone on this mountain range can be seen… It’s a strategic point… We don’t know how things will develop here, but our presence here is of paramount security importance”.
Israeli officials, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, say that Israel will control the Syrian territories it recently occupied indefinitely.
