The Iranian Supreme Leader advisor reveals details of the negotiation roadmap that Iran has set out in its talks with the US
The advisor to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Ali Larijani revealed the roadmap for Iran’s negotiations with the US side in the Rome talks, scheduled to be held, Saturday, in the Italian capital.
On the other haned, Ali Shamkhani, the Supreme Leader’s advisor, posted on X, “Iranian negotiators have traveled to Rome with full authority, seeking to reach a comprehensive agreement based on nine principles”.
He explained that the principles are seriousness, providing guarantees, lifting sanctions, rejecting the Libya/UAE model, avoiding threats, speeding up negotiations, curbing troublemakers (such as Israel), and facilitating investment. Iran came to reach a balanced agreement, not to surrender.
The second round of US-Iranian nuclear negotiations is scheduled to take place, Saturday, in Rome, with Oman as mediator.
US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will again participate in the negotiations.
These talks come amid diplomatic consultations involving Russia, pressure from the administration of US President Donald Trump, and a visit to Tehran by the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
The first round was held on April 12 in Muscat, where the two sides held a 45-minute indirect dialogue for the first time in eight years.
The US side assessed the discussions as serious and substantive and insisted on moving the second round to Rome.
Media reports indicate that the new meeting format may include both sides attending in person in the same room, but Iran officially insists that the talks will remain indirect.
