The French president calls for the creation of a reliable European defense that includes the French nuclear
French President Emmanuel Macron said in a press interview, “I support that we open the discussion about anti-missile defense, the launches of long-range weapons, and nuclear weapons by those who possess them, or who have an US nuclear weapon on their soil”.
“Let’s put everything on the table and look at what really protects us in a reliable way,” he added.
The French President indicated, during an interview with a number of young Europeans published by Ibra newspapers on Saturday, that “France will preserve its privacy, but is ready to contribute more to the defense of European lands”.
France has about 300 nuclear warheads and is considered the only nuclear power in the European Union after Britain left the bloc.
In recent weeks, the French President has adopted a tougher stance against Russia over its invasion of neighboring Ukraine, and this isn’t the first time he has suggested using French nuclear weapons to defend the European Union.
During a speech at the Sorbonne University on Thursday, Macron called for a strong Europe and the establishment of a reliable European defense alongside the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), in the face of Russia.
