Israel escalated its deadly attacks on Iran on the fourth day of the offensive, targeting surface-to-surface missile launch pads in central Iran, the northern city of Mashhad, and military sites in the west.

Tehran responded by launching a new wave of missiles at several Israeli cities and areas, hitting and destroying several sites and leaving casualties and huge economical and financial losses.

“The IDF is currently striking surface-to-surface missile sites in central Iran,” Israeli military spokesman Nadav Shoshani wrote on X that, “We’re operating against this threat in our skies as well as in Iranian skies”.

On the third day of the Israeli offensive, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened to make Iran pay a very heavy price after civilians were killed by ballistic missiles launched by Iran in retaliation, which struck populated areas and destroyed buildings.

In Iran, the Ministry of Health announced that Israeli attacks have killed at least 224 people since Friday and injured more than 1,000 others.

On Sunday, an airstrike targeted a residential building in central Tehran, killing at least five people, according to Iranian media.

Powerful explosions rocked the area at least twice, within minutes of each other, sending thick clouds of black smoke into the sky, with large numbers of residents rushed to the site of the blast near the Ministry of Communications.

To protect the population, the Iranian government announced that mosques, metro stations, and schools would be prepared for use as shelters starting Sunday evening.

In Israel, sirens sounded in various areas in the afternoon and overnight, and the army called on residents to temporarily take shelter.

The Israeli army said rockets hit several areas, while the fire department reported damage to a residential building on the coast.

A total of eight people injured, according to the Israeli ambulance service.

The Magen David Adom ambulance service released footage of its teams deployed in the coastal city of Haifa, showing burning cars and a residential building whose facade was damaged by a rocket.

Iranian missile attacks since Friday have killed 13 people and injured 380 others in Israel, according to the ambulance service.

Israel launched a large-scale campaign of attacks on Iran on Friday, targeting military and nuclear sites in particular, with the stated goal of preventing it from developing nuclear weapons, a claim Tehran has long denied, asserting its right to a peaceful nuclear program.

After decades of proxy wars and limited operations, the two Middle Eastern enemies have clashed directly militarily for the first time with such intensity.

Iran vowed on Sunday to respond with a devastating response to Israeli attacks, saying, through a military spokesman, that Israel would soon become uninhabitable.

The Israeli military announced on Sunday that it had bombed Mashhad Airport in northeastern Iran, approximately 2,300 kilometers (1,400 miles) from Israel.

The strike was the farthest on Iranian territory since Friday.

The Israeli military also confirmed that it struck dozens of surface-to-surface missile facilities in western Iran.

From his part, Netanyahu announced in an interview with Fox News that Israel had destroyed the main facility at the Natanz nuclear site in central Iran.

The Israeli Prime Minister indicated that strikes on Iran could lead to a change in the country’s leadership, adding, “This could certainly be the outcome because the Iranian regime is very weak”.

For its part, Iran announced on Sunday the killing of the head of the Revolutionary Guards’ intelligence, following the assassination of two of the country’s most senior officers and nine nuclear scientists on Friday.

Dozens of targets in the capital, Tehran, were targeted, including nuclear-related sites and two fuel depots.

Most shops were closed on Sunday, while long queues of cars lined the exits of Tehran.

More than 1,500 kilometers away, a barrage of Iranian missiles the night before caused destruction in Bat Yam, south of Tel Aviv, and the city of Tamra, to the north.

While inspecting the site of a rocket attack on a residential building in Bat Yam, Netanyahu threatened Iran with a “very heavy price for the deliberate killing of civilians, women, and children”.

In the United States, President Donald Trump called on the Islamic Republic and the Hebrew state to reach a settlement.

In an interview with ABC, Trump said he was open to Russian President Vladimir Putin playing a mediating role in the conflict, adding that Washington could get involved in the conflict but wasn’t involved at the moment.
