On Monday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry arrived in the Syrian capital, Damascus, on a visit of solidarity due to the February 6th earthquake.
The Syrian official news agency, SANA, reported that Foreign Minister Faisal al Miqdad received his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, at Damascus International Airport.
SANA added that Minister Shukri arrived Monday morning at Damascus International Airport on a visit to confirm solidarity with Syria in facing the repercussions of the earthquake.
This is the first visit by an Egyptian foreign minister to Damascus since the outbreak of the conflict in Syria in 2011.
Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said yesterday that Shoukry intends to go to both Syria and Türkiye.
The official Egyptian spokesman said, “The visit aims to convey a message of solidarity from Egypt to Türkiye and Syria, following the earthquake disaster that left heavy losses”.
The Egyptian spokesman added that the Egyptian Foreign Minister will confirm, during his meetings with officials of the two countries, Cairo’s permanent readiness to provide a helping hand and assistance to those affected in the affected areas, and that Egypt, the government and people, cannot delay a day in supporting its brothers.
