The death toll from the violent earthquake that struck “Izmir” has risen to 49, injured 896, and warnings of more devastating aftershocks

The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) announced, on Sunday, that the number of victims of the Izmir earthquake has risen to 49.

AFAD said in a statement that the region witnessed 812 serious aftershocks, 40 of them above 4 degrees, after the 6.6-magnitude earthquake hit the Aegean Sea off the coast of Izmir (west), Friday.

It indicated that the number of earthquake victims increased from 39 to 49 people, including one drowning, and 896 were injured.

She explained that the crews are continuing the search and rescue work in 9 residential buildings.

On Friday, an earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale occurred off the coast of the “Safri Hesar” district in Izmir, according to the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management “Afad”.
