The Daily Telegraph: Putin and the West’s options
The Daily Telegraph posted the developments of the Russian war on Ukraine.
With headline “Putin won’t accept defeat.. We must prepare for a war that will become even uglier” by Tobias Ellwood and Hamish de Bretton.
Russia’s attack on Ukraine is part of a broader strategy to regain influence in Eastern Europe.
“The recent Ukrainian counter-attacks have greatly offended Putin, so there is a very high expectation that he will show an even more uglier face than he has”.
For Ukraine, with its massive territorial recapture, and the approach to Russia’s borders, it is arguably Putin’s most serious setback to date, and has fueled optimism that Ukraine can actually win.
They continued: “Putin chose this war as part of a broader strategy to re-impose Russian influence in Eastern Europe.
He cannot afford to lose… He may have misjudged Ukraine’s heroic efforts to stay the course and fight, but he was right to bet on the West’s reluctance to get involved directly.
Ellwood and de Bretton expect that the Russian president will increase the tactics of unconventional warfare after the recent losses, and that the small part of the Russian gas and oil supplies will witness problems, as well as the case with grain exports, to add to the difficulties with the approach of winter.
Even more worrying, they go on, is Putin’s threat to use weapons of mass destruction or the use of Ukrainian nuclear plants as a weapon.
The authors expressed their belief that the West can use the money to reduce the repercussions of the current financial and oil crisis.
The article advised to prepare and take the initiative to prepare for a nuclear war.
The Daily Telegraph posted an editorial reflecting view entitled: “It is time for European military forces to take the scene in Ukraine”.
The British Prime Minister Liz Truss will tell the United Nations General Assembly that her country will allocate the same amount, if not more, as it allocated for the war in Ukraine, which amounted to 2.3 billion pounds next year.
The British pledge comes amid growing expectations of further advances by Ukrainian forces against a demoralized and dangerously deteriorating Russian army.

According to the Telegraph, the UK pledge needs to be accompanied by similar support from other countries in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), noting that the United States is the largest contributor to the Ukrainian war, followed by Britain, which has trained more than 27 thousand members of the Ukrainian army since 2015.
And supplied Kyiv with military equipment since the start of the war.
But the other major European countries, particularly France, Germany and Italy, do not throw their weight behind Ukraine.
French President Emmanuel Macron seems to be playing the role of an “honest negotiator”, while the German position is hesitant, and Italy is preoccupied with the general elections that it will witness soon.
The Telegraph concludes by saying: It is time for the Big Three in Europe to intensify their support for Ukraine.
