The content of the final Russian-Turkish agreement on Syria
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Saturday that Moscow and Ankara had reached an understanding on coordination between Russian and Turkish military personnel on the ground after US troops withdrew from the country.
The Turkish political writer and analyst Firas Radwan Oglu said that the Turkish-Russian discussion that took place earlier this week included the agreement on the continuation of coordination between the two countries, and the continuation of the fight against terrorist groups in the north of Syria, and discussed the new Syrian constitution and its constitutional committee, while the fourth point dealt with how to fill the US withdrawal, and finally the file of the Syrian refugees.
On the synchronization of talks with the entry of the Syrian army to Manbej, Oglu clarified
“The return of the Syrian north to the control of Damascus which is acceptable to the Turkish side, but after the agreement on the new constitution and the system of government, in the presence of a consensus between Moscow and Ankara on the centrality of Damascus, but within a new formula that ensures the participation of all Syrians”.
A number of observers agree that the US withdrawal from Syria was expected by the power circles in Russia and Turkey, so the discussions aimed at exploring the vacuum in the Syrian north were already in place.
“There are expectations that the Turkish forces will play an important role in this regard, according to the Turkish strategy”.
