The Chinese President calls for mobilizing more voices for political solution in Ukraine
Chinese President Xi Jinping called on Wednesday for more voices to work toward a political solution to end the war in Ukraine.
Xi made the call during a state visit to Brazil, where he was hosted by his Brazilian counterpart Lula da Silva, the agency said.
Beijing and Brasilia have put forward a joint roadmap for peace in Ukraine that Moscow has supported but Kiev has rejected.
Xi said he wanted to see more voices committed to peace to pave the way for a political solution in Ukraine.
The Brazilian president, Lula, who was alongside Xi Jinping when he made the remarks, stressed the importance of the China-Brazil initiative, saying, “In a world torn by armed conflicts and political disputes, China and Brazil put peace, diplomacy and dialogue at the forefront”.
The Chinese president paid a state visit to Brazil following the G20 summit in Rio, where he warned that the world was facing a new phase of turmoil.
The United States and Europe didn’t support the Chinese-Brazilian proposal for peace in Ukraine, stressing that any step towards peace must have the support of Kiev.
