The Azawad Front: Significant casualties inflicted on the Malian army
The Front for the Liberation of Azawad (FLA) announced early Wednesday that it carried out an attack using 25 suicide drones, targeting the military airport inside the Fihron Ag El Yansar camp in the city of Gao in eastern Mali.
In a statement, the front said the attack resulted in significant human and material losses among the Malian army and members of the Russian African Corps stationed at the base.
On the other hand, the Malian army said in a statement, that the armed group attempted early in the morning of March 11, 2026, to carry out attacks using missiles and a suicide drone against an armed forces position in the Gao region… These attacks didn’t result in any casualties or significant damage”.
A statement issued by the General Staff of the Armed Forces on Wednesday said that a patrol was immediately launched to pursue the attackers, and investigations are still ongoing to determine if there were any victims outside the camp.
The General Staff reported a precision strike on Tuesday targeting armed groups northeast of the town of Dievarapi in Mopti state, stressing that the group has been completely eliminated and all its logistical means destroyed.
The Malian and Azawadi parties have occasionally announced attacks against each other, and the Malian army has recaptured several locations that had been under the control of Azawadi movements for many years.
The Azawadi movements also announced a defeat of the Malian army and Russia’s Wagner Group, during battles in the Tenzoatin region near the border with Algeria in late July 2024.
