The 25th Amendment in the US Constitution!

After a disastrous performance in the debate and growing calls for US President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential race, calls for the activation of the 25th Amendment to the US Constitution have become louder.

These voices are calling for the removal of a president who refuses to withdraw from the race, and for his vice president or another Democratic candidate to face former President Donald Trump in the presidential election scheduled for November.

The 25th Amendment to the US Constitution allows for the possibility of forcing the president to step down if a majority of his ministers decide that he is unable to perform his duties due to cognitive problems.

The Constitution stipulates that the Vice-President assumes the functions of the presidency in the event of the President’s death, resignation or deterioration of his mental health.

In this atmosphere, Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson called for Article 25 of the Constitution to be invoked, and two Republican lawmakers introduced a resolution to activate this article one day after the debate, based on the soothing and unfocused performance of the president.

Surprisingly, President Trump didn’t join these calls, prompting interpretations that he would prefer to face Biden in the election because he believes it would be easier to defeat.

He even advised Biden to ignore calls to withdraw from the race.

The constitution stipulates that the vice president and 15 ministers in his administration can submit a memorandum to the presidents of the House and Senate demanding the removal of the president from office.

However, the president can Veto this resolution.

In this case, lawmakers must respond within 4 days to continue the impeachment process, and Congress must pass within 48 hours.

The decision requires the approval of two-thirds of both chambers to take effect, which is unexpected.

What is certain is that opponents of Biden’s survival seek his honorable exit, praising his achievements over decades, and wanting to convince him to withdraw instead of deposing him, in order to preserve his political reputation.
