Tehran has presented Washington via Islamabad a new proposal to end the war
Iran has submitted a new proposal to the United States, via Pakistan, for negotiations on a final end to the war in the Middle East, according to official media in Tehran on Friday.
The official IRNA news agency reported that “the Islamic Republic of Iran presented its latest proposals for negotiations to Pakistan, in its capacity as mediator in talks with the United States, on Thursday night,” without providing further details.
After a ceasefire brokered by Pakistan took effect on April 8, Islamabad hosted a round of negotiations between delegations from Tehran and Washington, seeking to reach an agreement to end the war that erupted with a US-Israeli attack on Iran on February 28.
The single round of talks didn’t produce any agreement, and negotiations have since stalled as the United States imposes a naval blockade on the Islamic Republic’s ports, while the latter continues to effectively close the Strait of Hormuz to maritime traffic.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a series of calls on Friday with his counterparts in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Türkiye, Iraq and Azerbaijan, and discussed with them the Islamic Republic’s initiatives to end the war.
