Tehran claim the success of its response while Israel promotes its failure
Several official statements were issued on Sunday morning, promoting what they considered Iran’s failure in its retaliatory response with missiles and drones to an Israeli attack that targeted the headquarters of its diplomatic mission in the Syrian capital, Damascus.
This comes despite Iranian official television saying that half of the missiles launched successfully hit Israeli targets.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant claimed, in a video recording broadcast by the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation, that his country stopped the Iranian attack in cooperation with the United States and other countries that he didn’t mention.
He added, “The campaign isn’t over yet… We must be vigilant and attentive to the army’s instructions and the Home Front Command’s instructions and prepare for any scenario.”
Likewise, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a brief tweet, “We objected… Stop us… Together we will win”.
In the same context, Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari said in a press conference that his country intercepted 99% of the threats (missiles and drones) that Iran sent to Israel during the night.
He added, “Of the 170 drones launched by Iran, none of them penetrated Israeli territory, and dozens of them were intercepted by fighter aircraft of the Air Force, our air defense system, and the defense systems of our partners”.
He added, “A number of individual missiles penetrated the Nevatim base and caused only minor damage, and the base is working well”.
He added, “However, it’s important to say: the event isn’t over yet… We remain prepared for further developments and threats”.
On Sunday, the Israeli army reported monitoring dozens of drones and ballistic and cruise missiles launched by Iran against Israeli cities.
The army claimed that most of these missiles were intercepted by its air defense systems and by strategic partner before they entered Israeli territory.
But at the same time, he acknowledged that a small number of rockets had fallen inside Israeli territory, pointing out that this caused minor damage to a military base and a serious injury in the south of the country.
For his part, Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir expressed his admiration for Israel’s defense, and called on X for a crushing attack on Iran.
On the other hand, Iranian television said, on Saturday evening, that the Revolutionary Guard had begun an air operation with drones and missiles against targets in Israel.
At dawn on Sunday, the Home Front Command of the Israeli army announced, through a statement, the end of the Iranian response, while the Israeli Cabinet, authorized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Galant, and Minister Benny Gantz to make decisions to respond to the Iranian attack.
The Iranian response, which is the first of its kind implemented by Tehran from its own territory and not through its allies, comes in retaliation after the consular section of the Iranian Consulates in Damascus was exposed at the beginning of this April to an Israeli missile attack, which resulted in the assassination of 7 members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
