Syria announces the start of the implementation of the comprehensive agreement with the SDF on Monday
The Syrian Information Minister Hamza al Mustafa announced on Friday that the agreement signed with the SDF will start to be implemented as of next Monday.
Earlier on Friday, the Syrian government announced in a statement that a comprehensive agreement had been reached with the SDF, the YPG front, ending the state of division in the country and establishing a new phase of full integration.
The agreement came after a military operation by the Syrian army during which it recaptured large areas in the east and northeast of the country, following the SDF’s violations of its agreements with the government.
“One of the goals of the ceasefire agreement with the SDF is to give Washington time to transfer ISIS elements to Iraq,” al Mustafa said.
The Syrian Information Minister pointed out in statements on that the agreement will start to be implemented next Monday.
The situation on the ground in Syria has changed after the recapture of Deir Ezzor and Raqqa, according to the minister.
He stressed that the recent agreement with the SDF, which is related to the cities of Hasakah and Qamishli and the integration of military forces, is a complement to the January 18 agreement.
On January 18, the Syrian government and the SDF signed an agreement to cease fire and integrate the organization’s elements and institutions into the state, but the organization continued to commit serious violations.
Mustafa added, “The agreement with the SDF determines the practical procedures of the January 18 agreement, and therefore the SDF elements will be integrated individually into the military brigades that will be under the Syrian Ministry of Defense”.
He added that the appointed director of Hasakah’s security, without mentioning his name, will begin his duties from next Monday, and the government will take over the Rumailan and Suwaidiya oil fields, in addition to the Qamishli airport, within ten days.
“The Kurdish issue in Syria is very complex,” he said, considering that the SDF has tried to reduce the Kurds to itself, and has worked to politicize the Kurdish issue.
He pointed out that the Syrian government has met with Kurdish delegations from various currents, including the Kurdish National Council, and discussed issues related to them with them.
The Minister of Information stressed that Damascus seeks through the agreement to take a positive step that allows its implementation in a way that achieves gains for all parties, stressing that Syria’s unity is no longer in danger as it was in the past.
