Switzerland freezes more than $8 billion in Russian assets

Within the framework of the sanctions imposed on Moscow, the Swiss government froze financial assets owned by Russia worth 7.7 billion Swiss francs (about $8.81 billion).

This number, which is a preliminary estimate, represents a slight increase from the amount of 7.5 billion francs that the Swiss government said it froze last year after the neutral country adopted European Union sanctions.

For its part, Moscow criticized the move and warned against the “theft” of Russian assets, and said that this tool is a double-edged sword.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said, “Stealing other people’s property never leads to good”.

After Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine, the West imposed sanctions on Moscow, and also froze part of Russia’s international reserves and Russian assets.
