Super Tuesday: Trump and Biden close to victory in the primaries
Donald Trump won 12 states, including Texas and California, in the Republican Party presidential primaries, according to most US networks, with the start of the results of the Super Tuesday primaries elections, which include 15 states to obtain the party’s presidential nomination.
The former president, who is seeking an enthusiastic return to the White House after he was ousted by Democrat Joe Biden in 2020, hopes to win the largest number of delegates in the 15 states on Tuesday on his way to securing the Republican Party nomination.
On his Truth Social platform, Trump expressed his thanks to the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, California, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia, which he won, while vote counting was still ongoing in the other Super Tuesday states.
The former president described the night of the results announcement as amazing as he approached obtaining the Republican Party’s nomination for the presidential elections.
“There is a reason why they call it ‘Super Tuesday,’” Trump said to a crowd of his supporters who gathered in front of his residence in Florida, adding, “Experts tell me because it is a big day, otherwise, because there has never been anything like this day before or anything this an absolutely decisive”.
His rival, former Washington ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, narrowly won in the northeastern state of Vermont, but has so far refused to withdraw from the race.
On the Democratic side, the US president Joe Biden won in 14 states, however, there are expectations that he will lose to a relatively unknown competitor, Jason Palmer, in the American Samoa Islands in the South Pacific.
Biden warned in a statement distributed by his campaign that Trump is determined to destroy our democracy, take away basic freedoms, such as the ability of women to make their own health care decisions, and approve another round of billions of dollars in tax cuts for the wealthy, and he will do or say anything to gain power”.
According to recent polls results, Trump, has a 65-point lead over his rivals in the primary elections, and by two points over President Joe Biden in the November presidential election.
