Staff in the European Union condemn the Commission’s position in support of Israel
On Friday, European Union employees around the world criticized the position of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in support of Israel.
around 850 European Union staff around the world sent a 3-page letter to the President of the European Commission in which they said, “We’re concerned about the unconditional support that the European Commission provides to Israel”.
The objectors condemned the Israeli actions against about 2.3 million Palestinian civilians trapped in the Gaza Strip, adding, “The European Commission surprised us with its position in support of Israel without paying attention to the atrocities committed by the Israeli army in Gaza”.
The objectors also pointed out that the Commission ignores the Israeli massacre of civilians in the Gaza Strip, ignoring human rights and international humanitarian law.
The European Union staff urged a ceasefire and the protection of civilian lives, adding that this is the essence of the European Union’s existence.
They stressed that the European Union’s credibility is at stake after its absolute support for Israel.
Earlier, officials in the European Union and member states criticized the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, who visited Israel last Friday, for not announcing that the European Union expects Israel to adhere to international humanitarian law in its response to the attack.
According to the Foreign Policy magazine reported, a few days ago, that European countries are concerned about their inability to send military aid to Israel, after their reserves were depleted as a result of sending it to Ukraine.
With the beginning of the war, the European Union urgently stopped development aid allocated to the Palestinians, estimated at approximately 691 million Euros ($728.66 million), and then retracted its decision, announcing that it would urgently review this aid.
Most European left-wing parties condemned the leaders of their countries who expressed their solidarity with the Israel.
